enjoying the comfort of home
It has felt so good to cozy back into the comfort of home. A few weeks ago Bud installed window boxes I quickly filled with colored impatiens that cheer me at the door. Afternoon sunlight forms rainbow spectrums on the living room walls and floors. Summer farmers' markets are filling our plates with colorful veggies for dinners to be enjoyed outdoors in the ocean breeze. Camping is on my mind or at least a day trip up the coast to Zuma beach in Gypsy, our '78 VW camperbus, while Bud surfs and Rave and I lounge in sunbeams and shade.
What are your favorite comforts these days?
* I am honored to have a guest post over at The Word Cellar today. Thanks Jenna!

It sounds like you are surrounded by rainbows in many forms!
I was hoping to be on a flight to RI in a few hours but had to reschedule because Atlas did not get into the doggy ranch. (I forgot to make a reservation until it was full.) So now, I am settling back into the comforts of home - fresh veggies and garlic chive pesto and watermelon, strawberry lemonade from Burgerville, sunshine + grass + a flopping puppy, and the possibility of attempting to bake a pie. It feels good to "be home". (It's funny how when you're preparing to leave, it doesn't feel like you're really home even though you are.)
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
elizabeth ~ sorry about your plans but, wow, does it ever sound good over at your house!
Speaking of being cheered at the door, that is how I felt when I opened this post! Rave is at the door greeting me, a chair of passionate pressed zinnias beckons me to sit a spell, and those rows of gilt bound books whisper “be still”. I love this glimpse of you through your home by the ocean. My comfort these days is in stolen moments of cicada song as I feel the rhythm of the summer. Congratulations on your post at the Word Cellar! XOXO
We did a ton of landscaping last summer, so I'm enjoying everything outdoors. We never go in. We are in our bistro table or front gardens. Then, we are in our lovely, private back yard or under the cabana doing yoga by our bubbling rock fountain. I'm just loving the weather, the season and the outdoor life.

stephanie: wondering if I've ever heard a cicada song and thinking maybe not...
suzanne: it sounds like your are enjoying the fruits of your labor ~ fabulous!
kelly: i am dreaming of the apple green walls i see in your photos.
last year I kept telling my friend that I was usually comforted by the songs of the cicada and that they always made me think of my father but that I found them at that time strangely disquieting ....my father passed away in the fall and I understood why....I heard one just the other day and it made me gasp....love your photos Jennifer.... love your cozy house.
martha ~ thank you. hoping the songs of the cicada always bring you the most comforting memories of your father.
